Film Shoot for a Music Video

A look into the styling behind the film clip for my new single
Devil's in The Detail...
I got together last week with a couple of friends and we put some moving pictures together and I just finished the final edit of the clip...

There may or may not be some live art happening... In a forest. And a magic bird.

It will be online Friday at the same time my single goes out to iTunes.
If you'd like an advanced screening of the film clip BEFORE it goes live on Friday September 1st, click the link above.

I'm gonna lead the way so c'mon c'mon dance for me...

My Mother - Style Inspiration.

Kathlyn.
She carries herself with a gentle grace.
Loves a good laugh but is elegantly refined.
Independent with a gracious strength.
My mother has taught me everything I know about the art of being a woman.

Style Inspiration from a 50's baby.
I was always jealous that my mum got to live through the 50's, 60's and 70's - but now I just take inspiration from her wardrobe and she gives me tips on my designs and how to make them 'cooler'.
Don't you just love that?!

I used to love looking at these old photographs of her and always admired her style - I still do! She was a true fashionista before the word was even invented and as a teenager would have things made by local dressmakers from her own designs! It must be where I get it from.

She taught me Dedication.
When I was growing up, she would paint her nails once a week, and roll her hair with heated rollers every second day before going to work. She had a dedicated skincare routine and was always classicly organised. I didn't think much of it as a kid - but as I'm growing older I'm realising just how incredibly stylish she is. (So I'll forgive her for the 80's!!)

You just don't seem to see much of the old Hollywood class these days.
I mean seriously - doesn't she just LOOK like a movie star?
She's always reminded me of Audrey Hepburn.
To this day she still rolls her hair in heated rollers every second day before going to work.
Without fail.

Peace of Cake

Made myself a birthday cake.

Chocolate mudcake with orange flavoured icing, served with Madagascan vanilla bean Ice-cream (Crunchie and Coconut Rough smashed into it ala Cold Rock) and fresh strawberries.
Could you possibly get any more decadent? I had to do it.

"Peace of Cake"
Is this not the coolest thing ever? Forget mini-cupcakes when you can make full size PEACE cakes! Bake tray made by FRED - I picked this up at a cute little store in Potts Point called "Bang" http://shopatbang.com

You may or may not know that I love to bake things. Especially mini-cup cakes.
I think it's the decoration part I love the most, playing with what flavours work together and making everything look way too good to eat!

So on the weekend while baking my birthday peace cake and deciding just what to serve it with, it got me thinking about all my past birthdays and why I love the idea of cakes so much. And after looking through some photos it's pretty clear where I get it from... MY MUM!

I don't think I ever got just a plain cake - here's a few of my faves...

The Rabbit.
2nd birthday - I kind of look scared... Maybe I thought it was a real rabbit?

Hickory Dickory Dock...

The Candy Store...
I remember that my mum didn't want me colouring in the candy stripes because I would probably do it messy... And I insisted that I was an awesome colouring-in-erer (in fact it was my favourite subject at school that year - duh!)...
The strangest thing is that I can clearly remember looking at my finished art piece thinking I had done the most spectacular job and that it was perfect...  Check out my SCRIBBLE on the candy store top!
Just goes to show that beauty truly is in the eye of the beholder :)

The Piano.
So age four is where it all started - the music and fashion I mean. We had an upright Pianola Piano that looked just like this. And you can see here I was a true lover of fashion - I mean look at my tracksuit... It had matching pants. Glad I got dressed up for my party.

The thing I love most about all of these memories is that the table cloth didn't change from my 1st birthday to my 5th. And even better than that is it's not the SAME table cloth - my mum just had heaps of the same style. Thanks 'the 80's'.

August Girl

It was my birthday yesterday and it turns out that if you put your birthday wishlist on your blog you'll probably get everything you wished for... I'm a very lucky girl!

I got the orange iPad tote / clutch that I was dreaming of... AND an iPad to go with it!! Teamed it with my fave studded jacket and a trusty old little black dress (that I actually wear backwards cause I love the racer-back neckline and zipper in front!) and voila.

I'm actually celebrating properly in a few weeks and currently working on an outfit.

I did however make myself a birthday cake (of course!) and some pictures are coming tomorrow!

With bells on...

It's all about the swing of it... And in this case, clearly the bell-bottomness of it...
These pants make me want to live in the 1970's so bad - I'm contemplating giving everything up and dedicating my life to inventing a time-machine.

But just in case I don't follow through, at least Azuki has these pants available in both burnt peach and BLACK (a girls best friend when it comes to pants that are so wide they kinda look like a skirt - that's why I love em though!) They'll be available in my shop in the coming weeks so stay tuned.

And what about the turquoise pieces by my gorgeous friend Victoria - the mastermind behind the vibrant Lotus Mendes Jewelry. I like to think of them as little splashes of wearable art... Her collections are getting more and more chaotic in the most dazzling kind of way - I've had a sneak peak at what's to come over the next few months and it's to die for!

If you're into unique designs as much as I am, you should check out her latest collection and info on what her creations are all about - there's a meaning behind every piece and it's really quite interesting how it's all come about.

New Art.

I've come full circle... I'm back to creating everything based on feeling and what the art tells me to do. I'm not really thinking about it - I'm just doing it and it feels really good!

This is my latest artistic creation... The cover art for my single Devil's in the Detail. I took a lot of ideas from the t-shirt graphics that will be part of my capsule collection for Azuki this summer which I created with sketch and graphic works. Also obviously used the song itself as the biggest inspiration!! You can listen below :)

Devil's in the Detail
will be released to iTunes on September 2nd
