Rockin' the blues around Sydney

Taking advantage of the sunshine and good eats in Sydney this week. I've munched and coffee'd at Petrol in Potts Point, Kawa in Surry Hills, Bay 88 in Rushcutters and Tigerbakers, Darlinghurst. All highly reccomended if you're in the area :)

But I've learned after two years of living in Sydney that no matter how much the sun shines in the morning - always take a jacket! Inevitably it will suddenly rain or a wind as cold as the arctic will blow you away. A linen or cotton blazer is perfect for these extreme Autumn conditions :)
Can't say the same for those shorts or *slightly* impractical Tony Binaco heels - at this time of the day anyway.

Crocodile Hunter

I'm not a huge fan of green. In general really.

I don't like green apples - the red ones are always sweeter, it makes me think of slime (à la Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles running around the sewers) and Oscar the grouch is green and he lives in a trash can. Ok... I'll admit it's a pretty weak argument because on the other hand in thinking about all the things that are green, it's mostly nature and fresh thoughts that come to mind....

Palm trees on a tropical beach, kiwi fruit, those sugar coated 'mint-leaf' lollies... And this green animal print shirt-dress by LOVE. It's not something I would normally choose but I saw it in their online store and thought I'd just try something a little less 'me'.

I've got it paired with House Of Wilde Kung Fu pants and a clashing red belt by Mink Pink (available at Market HQ). I'm loving all the "shirt-dresses" around right now - you've always got the option of wearing as a dress or over pants - so here's a few more 'me' styling ideas via Polyvore.

Crucifix, Chains & Stripes Lovin'

So life's getting somewhat hectic at the moment - mostly getting everything ready for my impending trip to Hollywood on Monday! With the organising, scheduling, emailing, blogging - it all means that I wake up in the morning, have just enough time to take Memphis for a run, grab a coffee, squeeze in a shower and BOOM it's bedtime. Where do these hours go?!

The other thing it means is much less time to think about what clothes are landing on my limbs and more about throwing on whatever is nearby (hoping I can still pull off some form of style representation in the process) That's where the oversized-knit-sloppy-joe jumper thing comes in handy! Currently working with me on a daily basis is this crucifix knit available here at inlovewithfashion.com accompanying skirts, leggings, jeans, maxi's - endless possibilities...

It just makes anything look cool.

So in light of this music trip to LA... Other than pulling out my copy of 'Light My Fire, My Life With The Doors' by Ray Manzarek and making notes of all the memorable places I now need to visit when I hit LA.... And other than getting my lyrics books, Garage Band snippets of new tunes and my guitar ready for the long haul flight... My typically-girly-I-can't-hekp-it-mind turns to what I'm gonna take with me, and what I'm gonna wear... Haha.

So this is a little wishlist idea for the flight from Sydney to LA... Comfort, ease and listenability is all on par with looking good - hehe.

I'm Going to Hollywood...

I just found out I am leaving for LA in just over a week!

The home of practically everything I listened to, read about, dreamed about and watched when I was a teenager... The Riot House, The Sunset Strip, The Whiskey A Go Go... Where Jim Morrison performed the infamous Oedipus -inspired version of The End.

Venice Beach... Where The Doors were f*cking born, man!

So I feel a very Doors-inspired couple of weeks coming on and fittingly my trip is gonna be filled out with a whole lotta Rock n Roll, writing new music, jamming in the studio... In the city where it all started! I've been to New York before but haven't set foot on western soil yet... Growing up in the west myself and in the words of Jim Morrison...

"The west is best, get here... We'll do the rest"

I'm staying on Sunset Boulevard.

I may never come back.
